Long Due Diligence Process, but Got Funded by Awesome Firm, Great Support
We pitched GSAVP last year and quickly received a term sheet. They came up on valuation and were reasonable on the other terms. The due diligence process was long and painful, but they communicated well throughout the process. Brian is on our board and is a great board member. He is very accessible by phone or email and responds quickly despite a busy schedule. He has plenty of useful connections and is willing to work them to help us out.

No Longer Part of Greenhill
These guys are no longer going to be part of Greenhill - announced last week of Oct 2009. The Greenhill connection was their "claim to fame", so now they will have to make it just based on the skills of Brotman and Hirsch - which won't be easy...

Bad Investor
I worked at a company that Brotman sat on the Board of. Times were tough and the management team had limited skills, but I can honestly say that he was an atrocity. Negative attitude and very little to add to the mix other than fear and a defensive and detrimental protection of SAVP's meager investment. This guy is truly a blowhard and I recommend staying far away.

They Need to Coordinate...
We approached them and got very confusing and opposite answers from different people. They really work at the same firm"

Keep Away From Savp
I pitched to them. I've dealt with many many VC's, and they were by far the most arrogant I've ever dealt with. They were checking blackberries, and even writing notes during the meeting - nothing I've ever encountered in 20 years in the high-tech industry. Brotman has very little operational experience.

Why Do They Exist?
Brian Hirsh is a nice enough guy but has very little intellectual horsepower. He really wasted our time. Brian seems to have less VC experience than almost any other VC I've run across.

They Enjoy Wasting Time
We pitched Steve Brotman. He was extremely arrogant and tried to come off as being very smart. However, his generic suggestions made no sense for our company. He reminds me of the typical financing VC: good with money, not so good with ops and doesn't know it.

Old School
Felt like they did not have a connection with the real world. Two many years sitting in the ivory tower.

Not the Best... Really.
SAVP / Greenhill has an admirable vision to be a "real" New York venture capitalist, acting like the best funds of the West Coast. The reality is that their deal execution leaves a lot to be desired. For example, they do not have a network of world-class individuals to help companies, their strategic advice is mediocre, and their deal terms are very aggressive. This boils down to mediocre portfolio performance. Read the Private section for more specifics...
