Iqt and Ben Levitan
Earlier this year, In-Q-Tel made a minority investment in InnoCentive and Ben Levitan was named a Board Observer. I am pleased to report that IQT has been a terrific partner. And that Ben has proven to be a real asset to the Board and a trusted advisor to me. Ben brings with him invaluable experience, both operational and strategic, as well as keen business insight. Based on our experience to date, I believe any company would be fortunate to have Ben Levitan and In-Q-Tel involved/invested in their future.

Excellent Experience
In-Q-Tel was instrumental in providing access to new markets for our firm. Growth capital is one thing, but working with a firm with the access that In-Q-Tel has to the DoD and the Intel community is something that no other VC firm can do. The talent at In-Q-Tel is top notch, far exceeded my expectations. Ben Levitan, partner out of their Boston office, became a key member of our leadership team as a BOD observer...his operating experience helped CoreStreet tremendously with governance and operational issues. He was instrumental in closing CoreStreet's merger with ActivIdentity. I would highly recommend engaging with In-Q-Tel if your firm is in a space interesting to their customers.

Good Partner
We closed an investment with In-Q-Tel late in 2008, after a long courtship process (10+ months). After the decision was finally made to invest in us, though, everything has gone very smoothly. The terms & IP addendum were reasonable, and we've since developed a "work plan" with them (i.e. consulting work for one of their "customers") and it is proceeding smoothly. We are now exploring a follow-on work plan for later this year with another one of In-Q-Tel's "customers". Even though our main target is a commercial product, In-Q-Tel is a great partner to have, especially in an economy like this!

In Q Tel is More Than Just a VC
Alot has changed at In-Q-Tel (for the better), and based upon personal experience working with them they have alot of very talented and execution oriented people who are looking to help their portfolio companies. If what you are pitching makes sense for the Government/Intelligence Community you ought to consider spending some time with them. It will be worthwhile...

Not What They Used to Be
Not the firm that they used to be when getting money from them was an automatic pass to sell into the govt market. So much change over there has really hurt them and the value add they bring is not as great.
