Probably Dodged a Bullet
We found our interactions with Partech to be generally nice and actually seriously considered taking investment from them. However, they very quickly reversed their decision on investment and tried to blame it on our interactions with them. It seemed to us that the partner had maybe been overridden by a senior partner even after making a commitment to us, which in and of itself doesn't seem to be a stable environment that you would want from an investor.

Insincere
Big mismatch between conversation feedback and feedback to others about us, decided they don't invest in UK after speaking a couple of times, didn't let us explain business well, ignored our timings

Partner Variability
Reading some comments, I can only tune some very positive comments. I guess variety of views is due to the different Partech partners. I had Partech as a VC, and will strongly recommend to double check partners track record and reputation before moving forward. I set up 3 companies, did 8 fund raisings, and my experience with Partech was by far not the best one.

Great Firm
They can be too easy in board situations with other VC's instead of forcing the issues. Also in spite of having a french heritage, this firm is as "un french" as they come in thier way of approaching startups.

Philippe Collombel a Great Board Member
I founded two Companies backed by Partech (and others). In both cases Philippe was board member and in both cases, clearly to the benefit of the Companies. I'd call him immediatly for a third venture.

Nicolas El Baze: First on Board Next Company
I was founder and CEO of a software startup with a successful exit. We had three VC investors through two rounds of funding before being acquired by a large public company. Previously, I was an officer at several other VC-backed startups, so I have boardroom experience with many other firms beyond these three. I can say with conviction, that if I seek VC funding in the future, Nicolas, will be first on my wish list for a partner.

Nicolas El Baze Rocks
Nicolas is one of the best VCs I've had the pleasure to work with, and I've worked with over 20 during my career. Nicolas is now on my second board and he brought me in to run the current company based on our experience working together at the last company I ran. Nicolas is the strongest VC I have worked with from the perspective of personnel issues. While he is careful to look out for the interests of his limited partners, he is also sensitive to the personnel management issues within our company, and has done an excellent job in balancing those two forces. Nicolas is also an excellent problem solver. He has historically been the VC I have gone to when large challenges arise such as creative deal structuring with an acquiror. His combined experience as a serial entrepreneur plus his time as a VC makes him uniquely suited here. I would strongly recommend Nicolas as a VC for any enterprise software or systems management company. Aside from Nicolas, I have not closely worked with other members of Partech, but have always found them to be upstanding where I have had the opportunity.

Philippe Collombel is a Great & Valuable Board Member
I am now working with Philippe and Partech since January 2001 and I have to say that we have always been on line on each decisions.
I am always impressed by the quality of Philippe's advice. He really has the capacity to understand, analyse and propose solutions very quickly. On top of that, we really have friendly relationship which helps a lot to take the best decision at the right time.
From the experience I have, Partech is definitively one of the best VC on place. They try to help the management as much as they can.

Nicolas
I was a cofounder of a company that went through 2 rounds of financing with Partech led by Nicolas, and we exited with an acquisition. Nicolas had been an excellent board member and really had the interest of the entrepreneurs in mind because he had been an entrepreneur before, understood their needs and dynamics. When we were deciding whether to go forward with the M&A, while other VCs were pushing us not to take the deal, pushing us to hold out for longer to swing for the fences, Nicolas sided with the founders because he understood that it was the founders' first success, and securing that success and the first pot of gold is much more important than turning the company into Google (with the possibility of losing everything on the way.)

The Supportive Culture at Partech
My experience in working with Partech has been very positive in three important areas:
1. Quality input on business strategy direction
2. Participating in the identifying and recruiting top talent-they had a number of contacts that were very helpful in building my team
3. loyalty-many VC's are with you during the up times but run for hills when the going gets tough--these guys understand the that companies go through cycles and just how difficult it is to build companies.

While the fund is not as well known as many on Sand Hill, it has a few real gems within. Nicole El Baze is one.

Nicolas El Baze is Excellent
Nicolas has an entrepreneur's mindset and experience. He empathizes with what entrepreneurs sacrifice to build their businesses. He's also smart and a good listener. I highly recommend him.
